Regional Consultations for the World Bank Environment Strategy
As Central Focal Point of the Global Environment Facility Network of Nongovernmental Organizations (GEF-NGO Network), LakeNet (formerly Monitor International) assisted the World Bank Environment Department in organizing NGO involvement in regional consultations on their draft environment strategy in 2000 and 2001. The Central Focal Point or Regional Focal Points of the GEF-NGO Network attended ten of the consultations. Monitor International facilitated the two North American consultations, one in San Francisco, USA and one in Ottawa, Canada.
On July 18, 2001, the World Bank launched the new environment strategy that was endorsed by the Bank's Board and aims to further integrate environmental concerns into the Bank's projects and programs. The document stresses environmental concerns must be fully 'mainstreamed' into all Bank activities.
