Welcome sign at meeting of mayors of towns surrounding Lake Cocibolca
Concerns were raised at the meeting about tilapia fish farms off Ometepe Island that are polluting the lake and may introduce dangerous invasive fish species to the lake.
Representatives from CIRA/UNAN and AMUGRAN present the Nicaraguan Minister of the Environment & Natural Resources with legislative language establishing a Sustainable Development Corridor which would include the Xolotan and Cocibolca watersheds.
