The much awaited second hydrographic survey aimed at improving the safety of navigation in Lake Victoria could begin next year.
A consultant from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Mr Neil Guy said the organisation was treating the issue of marine safety as a priority.
The French government has already signed a memorandum of understanding with the East African Community (EAC) to fund the search and rescue the navigational aids and regulations.
Guy made the disclosure in Kisumu during a stakeholders meeting to chart the way forward for the hydrographic programme.
